Ferguson not expected to return to Vols

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Tennessee head coach Butch Jones said Tuesday he does not expect quarterback Riley Ferguson to remain with the team. The comments were made in Destin, Florida at the SEC Spring Meetings. Jones said the expectation is based on recent conversations with Ferguson.

The redshirt freshman from Charlotte was expected to compete for the starting spot in the fall. While Ferguson did not play in 2013, he did impress at times during spring practice. Ferguson was a two-time state champion in high school and a four-star rated prospect by ESPN.

Ferguson's absence leaves senior Justin Worley and sophomore Josh Dobbs in a two-man competition for the starting quarterback spot.
