Son of Ky. snake handler recovers from bite

MIDDLESBORO, Ky. (WATE) - Cody Coots, the son of late snake-handling preacher Jamie Coots, says he was bitten from a rattlesnake and is now recovering.

Cody Coots was bitten on the finger. Coots says he remembers his father had told him not to panic because that would have made it worse. He remained calm through the incident.

Coots, 21, didn't accept medical treatment. He says he prayed for the snakebite to heal.

Coots' hand swelled and he vomited multiple times. He says by Tuesday the pain was gone.

He says he had spoken with the Lord and told him he wouldn't go to the hospital.

Coots is a fourth-generation snake handler and had been bitten five times previously.
