Knox County Sheriff's Office warns of another phone scam

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - The Knox County Sheriff's Office is warning residents of another phone scam in which the caller pretends to be an officer or detective demanding money.

The KCSO began taking reports on May 23 about a man who calls and identifies himself as Officer or Detective Eddie Biggs, informing the victims they have either missed jury duty or have an unpaid red light camera ticket.

He tells the victims them must purchase prepaid credit cards for a certain amount to pay the fines and then asks them to call him back with the numbers from the card. He has even asked one victim to meet him at 400 Main Avenue.

Anyone receiving a similar phone call is warned not to give out any personal information, but to instead contact the KCSO at (865) 215-2243 to file a report.
