Local golfer takes on the pros at Three Ridges Golf Club
Knoxville (WATE)-- Knoxville native Brad Hawkins has had a heck of a week. Just five days after leading Walters State Community College to an NJCAA division two national championship he is competing with the pros in the NGA's Three Ridges Golf Club Classic.
"I'm feeling a little bit of fatigue," said Hawkins. "This is a pretty tough course to walk so it's obviously going set in and get worse over the next couple days as it gets hotter."
Hawkins is certainly familiar with the course's terrain. He says he plays the course about 100 times every summer.
"Yeah, I definitely have a good advantage here. The pros out here are staying in hotels, they don't really know the area. I just get up an hour before tee-time. It's maybe a 10 minute drive. I know these greens pretty well so that's definitely a good advantage."
As the only amateur in the tournament, Hawkins already had a mental advantage.
"I think all my nerves have been burned out after this week so, I feel free out here," said Hawkins. "I'm the only one not playing for money."
Through the first two rounds Hawkins was in ninth place at 2-under.
