KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Police released more details Monday about an incident in which a member of the Knoxville Police Department shot a man in the Lonsdale community.

Police were called to Lonsdale Homes in the 2100 block of Texas Avenue around 11 p.m. Saturday night for a domestic disturbance.

When police arrived, the argument became violent. Police say that was when K-9 officer Darrell Sexton shot suspect Teros Anderson Sweeney, 39, in the leg. He was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Police say Sweeney has a long criminal history that includes kidnapping, aggravated robbery, weapons possession and resisting arrest. He is current wanted by US Marshals on a weapons violation. KPD will be charging him with aggravated assault on an officer and criminal impersonation.

Sexton was placed on administrative leave, which is standard procedure in an officer-involved shooting.
