KNOXVILLE (WATE) - The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency trapped a bear Sunday afternoon that had wandered into a West Knoxville neighborhood.

Residents spotted the bear near the intersection of Papermill Drive and Coleman Road around 11 a.m. and called police. Police then called TWRA officers.

When officers responded to the neighborhood, they found the young male bear, weighing about 300 pounds, had climbed a tree at a home.

The officer shot a tranquilizer dart and was able to trap the bear.

Officials say it had a torn right ear, which indicates it may have been trapped and tagged previously. It was taken and released into a wildlife management area. The TWRA says the bear did not cause any damage or harm any persons.
