NEWPORT (WATE) - A former Cocke County commissioner was arrested last week after he allegedly attempted to sell cocaine.

Ricky Ellison, 62, is charged with possession of schedule II (cocaine) for resale and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The Cocke County Sheriff's Office says it was contacted on May 31 by an informant who had been receiving texts from Ellison about the sale of $250 to $300 worth of cocaine.

A meeting was set up at the National Guard Armory where Ellison was discovered with cash, a baggy containing a white substance believed to be 4.7 grams of cocaine and a cut straw containing what was believed to be cocaine residue.

Ellison's 2004 black Chevrolet Silverado and $110 in cash was seized.
