ATM stolen from West Knox County convenience store

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - The Knox County Sheriff's Office is searching for a suspect or suspects who stole an ATM from a West Knox County convenience store.

A KCSO report says deputies were dispatched to Weigel's, 9710 Westland Drive, around 2:45 a.m. Wednesday morning. The responding deputy noticed the front window was broken and an ATM machine from inside the business was missing.

A witness who lives across the street from the store said he heard a loud crash and when he looked out the window, he saw a white cargo van backed up to the business with the back doors open.

He then saw the vehicle drive off going eastbound on Westland Drive with a yellow strap hanging out the back of the van.

Surveillance video from the store shows the van pulling the ATM out of the store with a strap. A suspect then loads the ATM into the van, which then speeds off.

The vehicle is described as a white cargo van with four doors, three windows on the passenger side and two windows on the back doors.

There was also a small logo on the passenger side door that was not legible from the camera's point of view.

So far, there is no word of any connection to a similar incident reported last week in East Knoxville. In that incident, a suspect or suspects stole a self-service payment kiosk from the Knoxville Utilities Board payment center on Asheville Highway.

That burglary also involved a white van, believed to be stolen from Fountain City United Methodist Church.
