ATHENS (WATE) - A bizarre death in McMinn County has ended with one man charged with second-degree murder.

On Friday, June 6, Athens Police say Adrian Hall was found on the side of the road flagging down help as his wife lay beside him unconscious.
He told first responders he saw a skunk in the tent where the couple lived and tried to hit it with a tent pole, accidentally striking his wife instead.

Investigators say they found no evidence or odor of a skunk in the area.

The suspect's family says the wife had a history of medical problems and that is likely the cause of her death.

Adrian Hall was initially charged with aggravated assault, but after further investigation, police have charged Hall with the second-degree murder of Janie Arlene Hall.
