Knoxville (WATE) - Texas high school quarterback Quinten Dormady received a quick lesson about the passion of Tennessee football fans on Monday night shortly after he announced his commitment to play for the Vols.

"You could tell by how much my Twitter blew up how much people are excited," he said to WATE 6 Sports.

Dormady made went public with his decision on the social media site Twitter.

He is the first quarterback to commit to the 2015 recruiting class and when he called Butch Jones and informed the Tennessee head coach of his decision, he received a surprised reaction.

"I think at first he was a little shocked'" said Dormady. "He was definitely excited."

Dormady said he is excited too and was asked why he thought Jones felt the same way.

"I don't think he was ready yet," Dormady said about the decision to play for Tennessee.

"I was going to wait a little bit longer and think about it. But I have just been praying and I felt that it was the right decision."

According to multiple scouting sites, Dormady is 6-4 and weighs 208 pounds.

He missed his junior season with a shoulder injury suffered playing baseball, but he told WATE 6 Sports he is healthy and ready for his senior season in Boerne, Texas.
