NWS confirms tornado occurred east of Kingston on Tuesday

KINGSTON (WATE) - The National Weather Service has confirmed that a tornado rated at EF0 occurred just east of Kingston, Tenn.

The NWS says the tornado touched down around 5:06 p.m. Tuesday and moved to the northeast along a hillside, producing a distinct path with hundreds of downed trees.

The tornado moved down a path about half a mile long and 100 yards wide. Estimated peak winds were 80 miles per hour.

he severe weather rolled through the Knoxville area Tuesday evening and left behind a trail of damage. The roof blew off Beaty Chevrolet on Parkside Drive in West Knoxville. Various other damage and downed trees and power lines were also reported. As many as 35,000 Knoxville Utilities Board customers were without electricity.
