Knoxville (WATE)- The Tennessee Smokies have announced a new four year agreement with the Chicago Cubs that will keep the Smokies as the Major League team's Southern League AA affiliate through 2018.
"We are thrilled to announce the continuation of our partnership between the Cubs and the Smokies," said Smokies President Doug Kirchhofer. "It is exciting to continue to work with one of the most recognized brands in sports, as well as with one of the best farm systems in Minor League baseball."
The Smokies have been a Chicago Cubs' affiliate since 2007.
The Cubs have strong ownership and an outstanding organization, said Smokies owner Randy Boyd. "We look forward to continuing this affiliation for many years."
Prior to working with the Cubs, the Smokies were an affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks from 2005-2006 and before that worked with the St. Louis Cardinals from 2003-2004.
The Smokies were the Southern League affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays from 1980-2002.
