NEWPORT (WATE) - A bizarre break-in at a local drug store, where thieves got in through the bathroom wall and knock over the toilet.

The burglary happened at Jabo's Pharmacy in Newport between midnight and 5 a.m. Wednesday. The Newport Police Department tells 6 News they're taking inventory of the store to find out what exactly was stolen.

It was a mess that required fans to blow in order to be cleaned up, earlier Wednesday morning there was about an inch of water inside Jabo's Pharmacy.

"I thought a water main had broke," said pharmacist Jeremy Sherrod.

That wasn't the case, someone burglarized the business and got in through the bathroom wall which knocked over the toilet.

"Nobody would do this, surely to God. But they did and I think it's a low down shame," said customer Florence Dominiak.

Employees believe this burglary was well thought out.

"They did bits and pieces at a time, I think probably they had a look out that would say 'Hey someone is walking to go to a store.' And they'd quit banging," said Sherrod.

Investigators with the Newport Police Department are reviewing security video.

'We haven't really had time to assess how much we've lost and what we've lost but it would be considerable," added Sherrod.

Loyal customers, like Dominiak, say the damage is sickening to see, "I hope they catch them and they have to redo the floor, redo whatever they have to do."

There's also relief that the break-in happened when no one was working.

"If somebody was hurt we couldn't forgive ourselves for that. The material things can be replaced at any time," said Sherrod.

There are plans to install more surveillance cameras and heighten security at Jabo's Pharmacy after this burglary. We're also told the offices in the basement were flooded.
