Former UT football player charged with murdering mother's boyfriend

LOS ANGELES (WATE) - Former University of Tennessee defensive back Janzen Jackson is charged with the September 2013 death of his mother's boyfriend Frank Herrera, 43, in Los Angeles, Calif.

According to the Los Angeles Register, prosecutors say Jackson strangled Herrera on September 11.

The Los Angeles Superior Court told 6 News he was charged with murder on September 18. He entered a not guilty plea on May 9.

No trial date has been set.

Jackson was dismissed from the UT football team in August 2011. He finished his college career at McNeese State and was a post-draft pickup by the New York Giants in April 2012, but was released a few months later.
