KNOXVILLE (WATE) - The TSA has opened a new application site in Knoxville for passengers to sign-up for its pre-check screening. It's located inside the UPS on Maynardville Pike.

The program allows passengers to move through the screening process much quicker without as many restrictions. Currently 50 percent of the traffic through McGhee Tyson Airport uses the service.

"It makes the travel experience a lot easier," said frequent flyer, A.D. Ali.

Ali travels on business at least once every two weeks. He's been using the program now for the last three years.

"You don't have to take out your laptop," said Ali. "You don't have to take out your liquid. Normally most people don't have to take of their shoes. Unfortunately I wear boots that have the metals in them so I have to take them off, but overall it's really very convenient."

Signing up has just gotten even more convenient with the opening of new application.

All you need to bring is one of the required documents listed on the TSA's website.

"Once you go in they are going to ask you a couple questions to verify your identity," said TSA Spokesperson Mike Howell. "They're also going to take your fingerprints and check those documents you brought in."

After a background check is completed you will be sent a known traveler number and you're ready to bypass the lines.

Ali says the small hassle to sign up is worth the time it saves.

"Compared to the regular screening it saves at least 60 to 70 percent," said Ali.

The TSA says so far the application site is averaging about eight sign-ups a day and they hope that number will only continue to grow.

The enrollment center is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. Appointments and walk-ins are welcome.
