KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Employees are worried for their safety after a Knoxville convenience store was burglarized twice in the last two weeks.

Lee's Food Mart on Asheville Highway was broken into before the store opened Thursday morning, and previously on June 7.

"If someone is crazy enough to go through the steps they're going through I mean you don't know what goes through their head or what they're going to do next," said employee Kim Hartmans.

Hartmans says it appears to be the same man.

"If he's been brave enough to do this in a week and a half span you know he's like well this is simple. I'm afraid he's going to eventually rob us or someone else and put someone at risk."

She says the man broke into the store around 5 a.m. both times by smashing the front door with a hammer. The door is now replaced with laminated glass in hopes of keeping this from happening again.

"I'm hoping that someone will recognize the face. It's pretty clear that he is from the area so that we can put him behind bars so this won't happen again and no one gets hurt," Hartmans said.

She says in all about $1,600 worth of beer, cigarettes and lottery tickets was stolen.

Employees say they haven't had any other problems with theft in the area recently. If you have any information about this case, you can call Knoxville police at (865) 215-7000.
