KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Paula Deen is kicking off her comeback tour this weekend right here in East Tennessee. She started Friday morning in Gatlinburg with the official opening of The Paula Deen Store.

"I'm glad to see she's back in it. She'll get on top of things again, I know she will," said fan Susan Donaldson from Illinois.

Deen is also happy to be back interacting with her fans..

"Ya'll are like the best medicine in the world for me," she told the crowd.

In addition to her store, Deen is also kicking off her live tour in Sevier County with two shows this weekend at the LeConte Center. Her new restaurant, Paula Deen's Family Kitchen, is set to open at The Island in Pigeon Forge later this summer.

"At my age you think, 'Oh gosh, can I do this? I'm kind of tired.' But when I get around these people, I have an energy you would not believe," Deen said.

And with an economy based on tourism, the Gatlinburg mayor is glad for every visit.

"It just draws people to town. You saw the crowd out today. They just love Paula," said Mayor Mike Helton.

The celebrity chef brought her own camera crew with her. They're shooting for the new Paula Deen Network, a subscription-based online channel set to launch in September.
