Apartment fire sends 2 to hospital, 1 to jail in Hawkins Co.

CHURCH HILL (WJHL/WATE) - An apartment fire in Church Hill led to more than half a dozen people being displaced, two people going to the hospital, and another being taken to jail.

Hawkins County EMA officials say three area fire departments were on scene at Stoney Brook Apartments around 2 p.m. Saturday. Firefighters say heavy smoke and fire was coming from two apartments upon their arrival.

Two people were taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation. Nine people were displaced. Authorities say the American Red Cross will provide them with a temporary place to stay.

Firefighters say one of the apartments is a total loss, another received a substantial amount of damage.

Authorities say they believe the fire started from an electrical issue in the kitchen.

While firefighters were busy putting out the flames, police were making an arrest at the same complex.

Police say they found marijuana in Judy Stanton's apartment.

Stanton was arrested and is charged with Manufacturing Marijuana within 1,000 feet of a Drug Free Zone and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
