DANDRIDGE (WATE) - Six people were injured after a multi-vehicle wreck shut down part of Interstate 40 in Jefferson County on Sunday.

According to the Dandridge Volunteer Fire Department, one person was transported by LifeStar to UT Medical Center. Five others were also transported, one to UT Medical Center and four to a Jefferson County hospital.

Officials say the call came in at 11:40 a.m. Sunday when one vehicle rear ended another in the westbound lanes of I-40 where it shifts to one lane, due to construction, in Jefferson County near mile marker 426.

Officials had to stop the interstate in order to let LifeStar land.

Officials had the scene cleared and reopened the interstate close to 2 p.m.

No information has been released on the condition or identity of the victims.
