Railroad track removal to cause road closures Thursday in Oak Ridge

OAK RIDGE (WATE) - The removal of abandoned railroad tracks in Oak Ridge will result in lane closures on Emory Valley Road in Oak Ridge Thursday.

Workers will be removing the tracks that cross Emory Valley Road and Briarcliff Avenue. To keep workers and motorists safe, Emory Valley Road will be closed between Briarcliff Avenue and Fairbanks Road.

Officials say detour routes will be clearly marked and the closures will affect only one direction of traffic at a time.

Message boards will be located on Lafayette Drive to remind drivers of the closure so they can take an alternate route.

Residential and business properties will still have access, but the streets will be posted for no through traffic.

Officials are asking drivers to avoid the area and want to remind them that delays should be expected on the detour routes.

The work should be completed by Friday, but inclement weather could caused the work to be extended or delayed.
