Battle Creek, MI - A Michigan man is hoping to get an embarrassing and dangerous condition taken care of, with help from the public.  The battle Creek, Michigan man has nearly a 100 pound, enlarged scrotum.  Dan Maurer and his wife, Mindy, are trying to raise money so he can have surgery.

The 39-year old says it's embarrassing to go out in public.

He and wife have been together for 20 years.  Not long into their marriage, he said he noticed changes.

At first, his doctor told him to lose weight. Dan said he was swimming two miles a day in the pool, and even lost 50 pounds.

Still the growth has become enlarged.  He was given a referral to the University of Michigan Health System. Again, he was told to lose weight.

Dan said, "As far as they were concerned, I needed to have lap-band surgery to lose weight."

Mindy said they became disenchanted with the medical community.

He tried to lose more weight and then Dan got sick and went back to the doctor. At that time, he was admitted to the hospital. He was diagnosed with a broken cyst inside the scrotum. He spent the next two years going to a wound center. Still the size of the growth didn't change.

It wasn't until Dan saw a show on TLC, that he knew there was hope. The show is called "The man with the 132 pound scrotum."

The condition is called scrotal lymphedema, which a rare condition caused by blockages in the lymphatic vessels.

Dan's only hope is a doctor in California who will perform surgery to remove the growth. Not only is the surgery dangerous it's also expensive.

Dan wants to not only improve his health but also his marriage.  Mindy said, "I haven't had marital relations with my husband in 7 years."

Dan said, "She's amazing. I don't see myself as being worth it, but she is to me. That's why I'm going through this."

Dan has his first appointment in California on July 25th.

There's a website set up to help cover medical expenses at gofundme.
