TOWNSEND (WATE) - A Blount County boy is using his upcoming birthday to help those in need in Knoxville. Nick Bryant turns 12 on Sunday and all he wants for his birthday are water bottles to donate to Knox Area Rescue Ministries

Like most 11-year-olds, Nick likes to play football, basketball and video games, but there's one big difference between Nick and other 11-year-olds, and that's Nick's generosity.

Nick first came up with the idea three years ago, after he heard about the need on the radio. The first year he donated 10 cases of water, the second year he collected 55 cases and this year he's collected 249 cases of water and counting.

"They think it's really awesome because last year, they said it's the most water they've ever got," Nick said.

Nick's been collecting cases of water since March. He says donations come in from more than just East Tennessee. He's received money from Florida and even as far as Alaska.

With the help of support from across the country, Nick's already blown past his initial goal.

"It would have been 110, but we've doubled it," he said.

All those cases of water add up to more than 5,000 bottles of water and counting.

Nick's excited to take his trailer, full of water bottles, to KARM Saturday morning. He hopes to show kids of all ages how important it is to help those in need.

KARM says the water will be used to help keep the homeless hydrated this summer.

If you'd like to help Nick out, you can donate by contacting his church, Church of the Cove at (865) 448-1929 or visiting churchofthecove.org.
