KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Knox County Board of Education member Indya Kincannon says she is stepping down after the August 6 meeting to travel to Slovenia.

School district spokesperson Melissa Ogden says Kincannon's husband Ben Barton was recently awarded a Fulbright U.S. Scholar grant in Slovenia.

"It has been a lifelong dream of ours to live abroad, and to sort of do so while our kids are still so young. Our kids are entering the sixth and eighth grades so its sort of our last chance to do it," Kincannon said of the move.

Kincannon, currently in her third term, has served Knox County's second district since 2004. Barton currently works for the University of Tennessee College of Law.

Knox County Commission will appoint her replacement. A public forum will be held where interested candidates can make their case.
