KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Two men were involved in a shooting incident Tuesday night on E. Churchwell Ave. in Knoxville.

According to a preliminary report from the Knoxville Police Department, Lamont Johnson, 22, of Knoxville stopped by the house of Charles Prater, 57, at 509 E. Churchwell Ave. in order to borrow money from Prater. An argument ensued between Johnson and Prater. Both men produced handguns and began shooting at each other inside the residence. The Prater suffered at least one gunshot wound to the upper torso and was transported to UT Medical Center.

KPD states that Johnson ran from the residence to an awaiting vehicle and was dropped off at Children’s Hospital suffering from more than one gunshot wound. Johnson was stabilized at Children’s Hospital and then transported to UT Medical Center.

Both men appeared initially to be suffering from life-threatening injuries.


Two firearms were recovered at the scene. No charges have been placed on the men at this time.
