Mayfield, Second Harvest collecting milk for needy families

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Mayfield Dairy and Second Harvest Food Bank are partnering to collect milk donations Saturday to help supply the food bank and its more than 500 partner agencies with milk.

Food bank officials say milk is desperately needed but seldom received. They say milk is one of the items most requested by food bank clients. Those at risk of hunger receive less than one gallon of milk per person per year.

As part of the Great American Milk Drive, a first-ever national program, donations will be collected Saturday, June 28 at Kroger, 9225 Kingston Pike, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Those wishing to donate can purchase a gallon of milk and donate it to representatives onsite.

In addition, people can donate by going online to www.milklife.com/give or text messaging the word "Milk" to 27722. By entering your ZIP code, you can ensure the milk is delivered to Second Harvest and its more than 500 partner agencies.
