MEMPHIS (WATE)- Jarnell Stokes was drafted 35th overall Thursday night to the Utah Jazz, but was traded to his hometown Memphis Grizzlies soon after. He was introduced into the Grizzlies' organization on Friday, along with fellow rookie and first round draft pick, Jordan Adams. Stokes, who almost averaged a double-double during his career at Tennessee, impressed the Grizzlies front office with his aggressiveness and rebounding capabilities. His 22 double-doubles this season tied Benard King's single season record. When asked about his draft night experience he said, " I was really somewhat shocked that I didn't make it in the first round, but I really couldn't picture a better scenario in landing here. And like he said, I like to compete and I'll definitely use that as a chip on my shoulder". Stokes is eager to get to work and prove that he will be a valuable asset to the his hometown team.
