Tri-Cities mom says aquatic center wouldn't allow her to breastfeed child

KINGSPORT (WATE) - A Tri-Cities mother said she was prevented from breastfeeding her son in a "lazy river" while visiting an aquatic center.

Gratia Cash said she was in the water with her 11 month old son when the baby started crying. But Cash said the moment she started breastfeeding her child in an effort to calm him down, a lifeguard blew his whistle and demanded she stop.

The mother said she was shocked and embarrassed. Cash said she informed the lifeguard and aquatic center management that Tennessee law allows mothers to breastfeed their children anywhere women are allowed to go.

A spokesperson from the aquatic center released a statement. They said "it's policy is no food or drink in the pools."
