KNOXVILLE (WATE) - A pregnant woman was dragged from a vehicle Friday morning after getting into an argument with a non-emergency medical driver.

According to the Knoxville Police Department, Duane Banks, 40, of Knox County, was arrested Friday on charges of Aggravated Assault and Reckless Endangerment of an unborn child.

Multiple calls came in to the 911 center around 8:30 a.m., saying that a man had run over a pregnant woman and fled the scene. The woman, who is 36 weeks pregnant, was taken to the hospital for treatment.

According to an investigation by KPD, Banks provides non-emergency medical driving services through a local company contracted with TennCare. The preliminary investigation revealed that the victim requested to make an unscheduled stop, which reportedly sparked an argument.

When the driver refused, he ordered the woman to exit the vehicle. While exiting, police say the victim somehow became entangled in the door and was dragged for a short distance.
