WALLAND (WATE) - A Townsend man died after crashing his car on Saturday evening.

A spokeswoman for the Blount County Sheriff's Office says this is the seventh fatality in Blount County in two months.
Deputies say Hmielewski's car slid off the roadway, causing part of the vehicle to hit a tree.

According to the Blount County Sheriff's Office, 33-year-old Daniel Hmielewski was driving on U.S. Highway 321 just after 7 p.m. when he lost control of his car near West Millers Cove Road.

He was taken to Blount Memorial Hospital, but later transferred to UT Medical Center.

Deputies say the airbag did deploy, and that Hmielewski was not wearing a seatbelt.

The crash is under investigation.
