JOHNSON CITY, TN (WJHL) - Johnson City police charged a mother with two counts of child abuse and neglect after two juveniles were left in a vehicle for at least 90 minutes.
Johnson City police say there were dispatched to the parking lot of Old Navy around 8:13 p.m. Tuesday night to check on the juveniles.
When they got there, an officer noticed they juveniles were left inside a white SUV by themselves.
One of the children said they were left in the vehicle since they arrived at the store.
Upon further investigation, Police determined that the kids had been left in the SUV for an estimated 1.5 to 2 hours.
Officers eventually caught up with the mother, 34-year-old Stacey L. Barrett, inside Old Navy.
Police say Barrett told them she was only in the store for about 20 minutes.
According to investigators, Barrett had taken prescribed medications, that could cause dizziness or drowsiness, throughout the day.
Police arrested Barrett and charged her.
She was taken to the Washington County Detention Center on a $20,000 bond.
Barrett's arraignment is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.
