KNOXVILLE (WATE) - A family is forced from their home following an overnight house fire in South Knoxville.

Firefighters responded just after 2 a.m. on Thursday to a home on the 500 block of Woodlawn Pike.

When crews arrived on scene, they quickly extinguished flames in the basement, where the fire damage was contained. The rest of the house had smoke damage.

The Knoxville Fire Department says the family made it out of the house okay. Firefighters were also able to find and resuscitate one of the family's two cats.

KFD says the electrical fire started in the area between the downstairs drop ceiling and the upstairs flooring.

The family will seek shelter with family members.
