KNOXVILLE (WATE) - A Knoxville woman was taken to the hospital Thursday night after she was hit by a vehicle while crossing a North Knoxville street.

The Knoxville Police Department says Buffy Kittrell, 37, was crossing N. Central Street at E. Oldham Avenue around 9:30 p.m. when she was struck by a vehicle driven by Lewis Haney, 77.

Witnesses said she was crossing behind another car in the median on North Central. As that car turned eastbound onto E. Oldham, Kittrell started crossing as well and that was when she was hit.

Haney said he didn't see Kittrell crossing until it was too late. Police say their investigation say the turning vehicle blocked both Kittrell's and Haney's view.

Kittrell was taken to UT Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
