SEVIERVILLE (WATE) - This holiday weekend, TDOT is easing up on area construction by halting all temporary lane closures, but new traffic patterns are set to appear when work resumes next week.

The work continues in Sevier County at the Exit 407 interchange off Interstate 40 and State Route 66. The project, which kicked off in March, is scheduled to wrap up next spring.

The end result will be a new and improved interchange to help traffic flow on Highway 66.

Some changes are coming next week to this project.

First, watch for temporary nightly lane closures in both directions of I-40 beginning Monday as crews set new traffic shifts. Watch for those lane closures and shifts to be put in place between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m.

More changes for the area are set for Tuesday, July 8. Crews will close the ramp that takes northbound 66 traffic to I-40 West.

To access I-40 westbound, crews will create a temporary left turn lane. A traffic signal will be added at this intersection.

TDOT says this temporary traffic pattern will be in place through the end of the month with a completion target date of July 29.

TDOT wants to remind everyone that whether you are traveling I-40 or 66 through this construction zone, please use extreme caution.
