NORRIS (WATE) - The Museum of Appalachia took part in a traditional Independence Day celebration Friday with the Great Anvil Shoot.

Instead of fireworks, these pioneers for the day shot off anvils as a way to celebrate the Fourth of July.

The museum has participated in this tradition for 26 years now..

The anvil shoot comes with a full day of festivities and music including a patriotic ceremony, flag waving procession, bell ringing and liberty pole raising.
