Firefighters pull unconscious woman to safety during apartment fire in West Knoxville

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Firefighters pulled a woman to safety Saturday night while responding to an apartment fire near West Town Mall.

Around 7:30 Saturday night, the Knoxville Fire Department responded to an alarm at West View Apartments on Gleason Road.

Upon arrival, firefighters ascended to the thirteenth floor, where the alarm panel was showing an active sprinkler head.

They arrived inside the apartment unit and pulled an unconscious victim to safety.

According to initial reports, the woman was cooking and had fallen asleep.

The woman was transported to Physicians Medical for smoke inhalation.

The apartment complex is now assisting relocation for tenants while water damage is dried in certain units.
