NASHVILLE (WATE) - Country singer and East Tennessee native Lois Johnson passed away after a long illness Monday at Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville.

Johnson was born and raised in rural Union County, Tenn. She began her professional music career at the age of 10 on local radio and television, including the Cas Walker Show, the Midday Merry-Go-Round and the WNOX Tennessee Barn Dance.

Johnson recorded for different labels between 1969 and 1978, and charted twenty singles on the Hot Country Songs charts. Her highest chart peak was "Loving You Will Never Grow Old", which reached number six in 1975.
