MARYVILLE (WATE) - City officials announced Thursday the lineup for what they say will be the final year for the Foothills Fall Festival in Maryville. Organizers say money is the reason for ending the 15th annual festival, as they don't want to use tax dollars to support the event.

This year's performers include Tim McGraw, Pat Benetar, Chris Young and Dustin Lynch. Maryville residents say they look forward to it all year, and are surprised to see it go.

"All the ones I went to they were great. The weather was perfect, the bands were fantastic," said George Lopata.

"It really brings a lot of people in from out of state. I've met people here that come back every year," said Philip Sharp.

"The decision was really one strictly of numbers. We rode a wonderful window of opportunity where acts were inexpensive, we could get top tier names here and not have to use tax dollars," said Maryville Mayor Tom Taylor.

"We began to have this question, of when do we stop it, about five years ago," said Maryville City Manager Greg McClain.

"Well that's the first I heard of it and I'm just kind of like that blows me away," Sharp said.

"I'm a little disappointed that it's going away. It was good for the folks here, it was good for the businesses in the area," Lopata said.

Businesses like downtown bar Two Doors Down, where Sharp works.

"That's kind of our big weekend. It's busy from the time we open until we close."

They're hoping for a compromise.

"Maybe the folks around here might say hey we're willing to pay the extra cost just to have the event here," Lopata said.

McClain says the city is exploring ways to use its resources for events and opportunities to occur throughout the year.

Tickets go on sale July 19. The festival runs from October 17-19.

Pat Benatar and Neil Giraldo will kick off the festival on Friday night, October 17, followed by Chris Young as Saturday’s headliner and Tim McGraw will close out the festival on Sunday.
