Goals met for 6 On Your Side Day of Service blanket drive to benefit East Tennessee Kidney Foundation

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - WATE's 6 On Your Side Day of Service for July benefited East Tennessee Kidney Foundation by hosting a blanket drive on the station's front lawn. The event's theme was "Christmas in July."

Those who stopped by 6 News donated more than 600 blankets Wednesday afternoon. Dozens of hats, gloves and scarves were dropped off, too.

The community's generosity was so great, 6 News counted an estimated total of $1,860 in monetary donations.

The event was held at Greystone Mansion, home of WATE-TV, 1306 N. Broadway, from 6:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 16.

East Tennessee Kidney Foundation needed blankets, gloves and hats as kidney dialysis is a cold and chilling process. The body's blood is removed, cycled through an artificial kidney, and replaced back in the body at a much lower temperature.
