KNOXVILLE (WATE) - A Knoxville police officer was injured in an accident Friday afternoon in Northwest Knoxville.

The Knox County Sheriff's Office responded to a two car crash involving a Knoxville police officer in his marked vehicle Friday afternoon just before 4 p.m.

According to officers, a 16-year-old boy driving a Jeep Liberty attempted to make a left turn on Ball Road at Dyestone Gap Road and struck the KPD officer nearly head-on.

The officer's name has not been released, and the officer was taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

Officers on the scene told 6 News the officer involved suffered a broken arm.

The 16-year-old was wearing a seat belt and was treated at the scene for minor injuries. No citations were issued.
