Volunteer Electric scam going around in Cumberland county

Posted:
CROSSVILLE (WATE) - The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office warned customers about a scammer saying your electric bill is past due.

Unknown individuals will call and state they are representatives of Volunteer Electric and if you don't pay the bill your electric will be cut off.

The fake leaves an out of state phone number for you to call back so they can advise you where to send the money.

If you have questions regarding your electric bill -- call Volunteer Electric at (931) 484-3527.

The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office also highlighted to make sure you know who you are talking to before you send money and to never wire money to anyone unless you are a hundred percent sure who you are sending the money to.
