Officers respond to stabbing in North Knoxville

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Knoxville police officers are searching for the suspect that allegedly stabbed a man in North Knoxville on Sunday night.

It happened on the 400 block of North Broadway around 6:45 p.m.

Officers said when they arrived on scene they found the victim, identified as Michael Cockrum, 33, who had a laceration on the right side of his stomach about three inches wide and one inch deep.

Cockrum, whom officers say is homeless, stated he got into an altercation with the suspect near the railroad tracks under 5th Avenue near Cooper Street.

The suspect was described as an African American male. The suspect allegedly ran south along the railroad tracks and was not seen after that.

He is described as an African-American male with a stocky build, bald head, jeans and no shirt.

Cockrum was taken to UT Medical Center after he made a 911 call. Investigators said they will conduct a follow up investigation.
