Roane County officials warning residents of multiple occurrences of mail theft

KINGSTON (WATE) - The Roane County Sheriff's Office is sending a warning out to all residents after open mail was found in a ditch in Kingston.

Those items were found at the intersection of Old Johnston Valley Road and Cedar Grove Church Road on July 13.

Officials say they believe the suspect(s) are targeting mailboxes that may contain checks and/or credit cards containing identity information that can be easily compromised.

The opened pieces all contained Roane County mailing addresses, but police say the thefts are occurring in adjacent jurisdictions as well.

If you notice any suspicious activity going on in your neighborhood or have any information pertaining to these incidents, you are asked to call (865) 354-8045.
