Knoxville man pleads guilty to kidnapping ex-wife

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - A Knoxville man pleaded guilty Wednesday to kidnapping his ex-wife while she was working as a housekeeper at a West Knoxville home.

Dennis Richard Smith, 53, previously admitted to breaking into 7205 Sheffield Drive in May, chasing his ex-wife Tamra Beam, 51, with a weapon, and taking her to North Carolina.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation says Beam and Smith were found at a rest area on Interstate 40 near Marion, N.C. around 6:40 a.m. the next day.

Sentencing is scheduled for November 17.
