Two women indicted for death of newborn in Russell Co.,Va.

RUSSELL COUNTY, VA (WJHL) -

A mother was charged in the death of her newborn child, according to Russell County, Va., court documents.

Jamie N. Lawson, 30, was indicted Monday by a Russell County grand jury for felony murder, child abuse and neglect, conspiracy to conceal a dead body and concealing a dead body.

According to the indictment, on June 28 Lawson acted in a manner that “was so gross, wanton, and culpable as to show a reckless disregard for human life.”

Also indicted in the case was Ashley Couch, 29, who was charged with conspiracy to conceal a dead body and concealing a dead body.

Russell County Commonwealth’s Attorney Brian Patton said Lawson’s child was born June 27, and the child’s body was found by the Russell County Sheriff’s Office on June 28.

Lawson and Crouch were being held without bond in the Abingdon Regional Jail.
