Kitty conundrum: Cats overrun Greeneville trailer park

GREENEVILLE, TN (WJHL) -

A Greeneville woman claims her neighborhood has been taken over by cats and there's nothing that can be done about it.

Greeneville resident Barbara Fox told News Channel 11 the cats belong to her neighbor and while the majority of the cats are inside of the house, Fox said during the evening dozens of them roam around the neighborhood.

"It's a trailer out here that has something like 48 cats and I think they’re sick cats that need to be removed," said Fox.

Fox said she and other neighbors began noticing more and more cats in the neighborhood, but they didn't realize the magnitude of the situation until a horrific incident happened.

"I guess one of the kittens go out and went to another persons house and the pit ate the cat and it ended up dying," said Fox.

"I don't want them coming up here to my yard and my dog gets a hold of them. They need help bad," said Fox.

When Fox called Greene County Animal Control they said nothing could be done about it.

Animal control told News Channel 11: It is our policy that we do not trap stray cats. We will provide traps to those needing to catch a stray cat and we will accept the cat into our shelter."

Fox said she did just that, got a trap and caught one cat.

"I tried to keep them out of my yard. I've done everything, I went and got cages and they've got so many you just can’t keep them out of your yard," said Fox.

A representative from the property management office told News Channel 11 they are currently investigating the situation, but it is their policy that no one have that many animals.

Fox said she can only hope that someone will be able to find the cats a new home; away from Haney Park.
