SPRING HILL, Tenn. -

A man with a gun entered a Spring Hill home through a doggie door while a family was sleeping.

It happened at 2:30 a.m. Tuesday morning.

Phil Kay and his wife had recently purchased a motion sensor camera after experiencing another home burglary. The camera captured disturbing images of a young man reaching through a doggie door at the rear of the house and trying to unlock the door.

The intruder, who was carrying a gun, eventually climbed through the doggie door.

“It's certainly disturbing that someone would invade your space and bring a gun in on top of it is a different story,” said Kay.

He and his wife were asleep in a rear bedroom with their four dogs while the man roamed the house for nine minutes before leaving empty handed.

The Kays said the only reason they woke up was because the alarm went off when the man opened the back door to make his getaway.

“We didn't know anything till he left, you know. We didn't know they were in the house till the alarm went off and they could have come in and shot us in the bedroom. We didn't know any better we were sleeping,” Kay told News 2.

Detectives do not think the break in was random. While the Kay family does not recognize the man in the video, they believe the culprit had knowledge of their home and knew there was a large doggie door in the back.

“It was disturbing. You know, we went out the next day and bought a shot gun just so we could have some home protection,” said Kay.

Detectives said the intruder maybe a white male between 17 and 20-years-old.

He had a silver gun, a bracelet on his right arm and was driving a small car.

Anyone with information on the case should called the Sheriff’s Office at (931) 380-5733.
