NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

The owner of a dog found nearly frozen to death in Joelton last January has been indicted for animal cruelty.

Thomas Gill will be arraigned next week.

Neighbors rescued Gill’s 10-year-old lab Maggie on January 4 after finding her starved and practically frozen to death in a driveway.

At the time, Gill told animal control officers he neglected Maggie because she had cancer and was going to die anyway.

Animal control officers nursed Maggie back to help. She was so badly malnourished she required the use of a doggie wheelchair to walk.

Gill is scheduled to appear in court on the charge next Wednesday, July 23.
