2nd teen to die within a month at Dandridge detention facility

DANDRIDGE (WATE) - Another teen has died while housed at a state juvenile facility in East Tennessee.

The Department of Children Services says the 18-year-old hanged himself Friday in his dorm at the Mountain View Youth Development Center in Dandridge.

He was taken to Jefferson Memorial Hospital and later transported to UT Medical Center, where DCS says he died yesterday.

The young man was from White County, and staff at Mountain View say they were unaware of any signs he might hurt himself.

This is the second death at Mountain View in less than a month.

6 News told you in July about the death of Brandon Greene.

He had been on suicide watch four different times since coming to the center in April.

His apparent suicide came just days after he was removed from a watch list.

Both cases are now under investigation.

Monday classes have been canceled at Mountain View.

The department says suicide-prevention experts will be on hand to help current counseling efforts.
