SEYMOUR (WATE) - Crews responded to a fire at a South Knox County funeral home Wednesday morning.

The fire was reported around 11:46 a.m. at Highland South Funeral Home, 9010 Simpson Road. Employees were evacuated.

The Seymour Volunteer Fire Department says it and Rural/Metro were called to the scene after roof workers called 911 when they noticed smoke and flames coming out of a section of the roof near an air conditioning unit.

Initial reports pointed to the air conditioning unit as the source of the fire, but the roof repair company believes the fire was possibly caused while they were repairing part of the flat rubber membrane roof.

Funeral home officials say they will be shut down for about a week to fix the damage.
