Knoxville man arrested on five counts of doctor shopping

MARYVILLE (WATE) - A Knoxville man was charged for a second time with doctor shopping for drugs on Friday.

According to the Office of Inspector General, Jonathan Presnell, 33, of Knoxville, was serving a sentence in Knox County on six counts of doctor shopping when he was brought back to Blount County to face five new counts on the same charge.

Doctor shopping is the act of going to multiple doctors over a short period of time to obtain controlled substances.

Presnell was also charged with six counts of obtaining a controlled substance through fraud. 

If Presnell is convicted, he could face a sentence of up to two years in prison per charge.

District Attorney General Mike Flynn will be prosecuting Presnell in Blount County.
